Value Proposition & Building Pillars

The Indoor Farms™ value proposition lies in its vision to build a resilient and cohesive ecosystem for the production of a diverse portfolio of locally grown fresh, highly qualitative, affordable, tasty and beyond organic fruits and vegetables. Through its different initiatives, it will enable the development of such an ecosystem from grass root level.

Here are the 4 building pillars on which The Indoor Farms™ develops its foundations:

CATALYZE THE DEVELOPMENT

of an integrated network of production infrastructures in urban areas offering a diversified basket of the healthiest fruits and vegetables. Leverage such infrastructure for R&D purposes on technology, climate control, energy and water consumption, and cultivation in challenging climates.

Develop Farm-in-a-Box Program for Agri-Entrepreneurs

Offer existing farmers, entrepreneurs, schools, real estate groups and restaurants turn-key farm-in-a-box solutions that includes pre-designed plans and layouts, business planning and operational support to help them develop successful tech farming projects. Amongst other this will offer opportunities to retro-fit and optimize existing traditional farms, develop new technological farming projects or to include small indoor farms from within restaurants, schools or malls.

Develop a residential offering

by distributing Tower Garden products, further building resiliency around local food production, while developing a deeper bond and relationship between The Indoor Farms™ and all its customers.

DEVELOP VOCATIONAL TRAINING FOR URBAN AND TECH FARMING

Develop technical training programs around urban farming and technologies made available by The Farms™. Offer such training curriculum to clients and partners, to elementary & vocational schools, and individuals from all background through a variety of format such as online courses, E-Books, on site training, adapted to all audiences.

Objectives

  • Providing high-end, pesticide free, beyond organic fruits, vegetables, as well as other types of farmed edibles.
  • De-risk the investment process into farming technologies to empower a community of agri-entrepreneurs and households to produce food locally using technologies
  • Develop a curriculum of training and knowledge sharing solutions. Become the market leader in terms of local food production of fresh produce.

Grow Over 160 Different Crops on Aeroponic Towers

variety of vegetables

Following years of observation and research, The Indoor Farms™ adopted a very pragmatic, simple and cost effective approach to growing fruits and vegetables. The data rather supports that several smaller farming infrastructures, built closer to urban areas where the consumers ARE located, IS more aligned to achieve its sustainability ambitions.
For its first pilot farm, The Indoor Farms™ will be showcasing its technology by producing a wide range of crops that can be cultivated commercially and profitably in the region. From baby and teen leaves, microgreens, several types of lettuces, kale, zucchinis, tomatoes, herbs such as basil, etc .

This pilot farm will allow for the development of a profitable operation as a standalone, while maximizing the showcase potential of this technology to activate the development of the proprietary programs The Indoor Farms™ will bring to market. The Indoor Farms™ being convinced of the relevancy of this technology and scalability, has secured, in partnership with Agrotonomy, the distribution rights in the GCC for this technology to allow other entrepreneurs, farmers and households to benefit from it.

Oscillating Hydroponic Indoor Farming for Strawberries

Strawberries are non-climacteric fruits. This means that they produce little to no ethylene gas therefore stop ripening once harvested. Strawberries as we know and have tasted them are under- ripened and therefore not fully developed in terms of nutrient density and sugar content. Simply said, they do not taste as they should. Most if not all of the strawberries available to the market, especially in a market like the UAE, are under-ripened. By harvesting them early, it allows commercial farms and retailers to elongate the shelf life but at the cost of offering a fruit that is neither developed nor tasty.

Once this reality is understood, it becomes obvious that the only way that a market can enjoy a fully developed strawberry is by having them grown locally within the harvest season. Strawberries after reaching full red coloration (the whole fruit should be red, no green or white tip), should be left on the plant for two additional days, depending on the variety, to develop full maturity and to be considered 100% ready to harvest. Once harvested, it should be consumed within a few days as it will offer very little shelf-life and will start bruising and start to slowly rot.
Through the strawberry farm brought to market by The Indoor Farms™, it will become possible for the first (or one of the very rare times) that consumers enjoy a fully developed fruit harvested hours before consumption, and this year round.
It became clear that The Indoor Farms™ would devote a hyper focus in making this a reality in the UAE, a market that consumes 12,000 tons per year. This berry fruit also offers various health benefits in terms of antioxidants, folate, potassium, vitamin C and fiber, which will impact global health conditions within the population.

To do so, The Indoor Farms™ will use a revolutionary oscillating recirculating hydroponic system developed by its partner New Growing Systems S.L., precisely to cater to the strawberries to be grown year round in arid climate regions. This system will be deployed indoors, in a fully closed and controlled environment, ensuring optimal climate conditions for the cultivation of strawberries. It will also help reduce by half the need for LED lighting systems, therefore reducing both capital expenditure and energy requirements for the ongoing operations. The oscillating hydroponic trays mechanically create for the plants two different climate zones as well as replicate night and day cycles to optimal levels for the fruits to develop their full nutritional and size potential. The system also allows optimisation of internal processes from harvest to delivery.

As for the tower products described above, The Indoor Farms™, in partnership with Agrotonomy, acquired the exclusive development rights over this technology to develop it in the GCC. The Indoor Farms™ is positioning itself to not only become a dominant player in the GCC for strawberry production, but also as a leader and guide to other entrepreneurs towards using the right methods and technologies to contribute to producing the required capacity.
As per the roadmap described herein below, once the strawberry pilot farm in the UAE is launched, and strawberries are introduced to the market, The Indoor Farms™ will develop the GCC market starting in Saudi Arabia and Oman. A network of strategically located farms will be built within the consumer market it will serve. It is planned to deploy at a later stage, in the GCC the proprietary propagation technology for strawberry, fully developed for CEA usage. This will be a first in the region, usually dependent on natural propagation supply sources from Europe.Through the strawberry farm brought to market by The Indoor Farms™, it will become possible for the first (or one of the very rare times) that consumers enjoy a fully developed fruit harvested hours before consumption, and this year round.
